Members of Congress want to hear from their constituents. They don’t care what people
in other districts think. They don’t care what Washington lobbyists think. They care about
what the people who can vote for them think. That’s what sets their agenda in
Washington.
When I go to the Hill to talk with a Member of Congress or staff and they have not heard
from a constituent about the issue I want to discuss, I'm not likely to get much attention.
But, if I go into an office that has had the phone calls, emails and faxes from back home,
it makes a world of difference. They sit up and take notice. They want to be helpful. They
want to do what their constituents want.
